- The Premier League are expected to televise even more matches by 2025/26

- SportsLens‘ odds-setters have slashed their price to 5/2 for the 3pm blackout to be scrapped by 2030
Premier League Broadcasting Special
- 3pm Blackout Rule to be Scrapped by 2030 – 5/2 (was 6/1)
Despite the announcement of an increase in televised fixtures, which will cover almost two-thirds of the total matches played across the season, viewers at home will still be unable to access 3pm fixtures.
The 3pm blackout has been a mainstay in the English game since the 1960’s in order to protect the rest of the football pyramid, but in an age of hyper-consumerism and instantaneous live streaming, fans are left questioning whether the rule is outdated.
The public pressure from viewers in the country, who are forced to turn towards illegal means in order to watch their team play, may force the Premier League‘s hand in the near future.
SportsLens‘ exclusive odds suggest that by the latter stages of 2025/26’s fresh terms, there may be a shift towards showing 3pm kick-offs, with their price now dropping from 6/1 down to 5/2 amid intensifying conversations on social media.
For broadcasters, even more games is a tantalising, pocket-lining prospect, but it remains to be seen what effect it may have on the lower leagues.
Neil Roarty, Betting Expert at SportsLens, said: “We are seeing more and more games shown live on TV and by 2030 the blackout could be scrapped and every game shown – including 3pm kick-offs.
“The Premier League appear to be staying strong on their stance to keep the blackout until 2028 at least. However, money talks and the rise of illegal streams could force their hands.”
