2023 World Darts Championship Prediction
It really is tricky to predict an overall winner of the 2023 World Darts Championship this year. There are so many players who on their day could turn up and win it, as well as new talent who look the have the full package.
Michael van Gerwen looks to be back to somewhere near his best, Jonny Clayton topped the Premier League table and is in decent form, as well as the likes of the defending champion and world number two, Peter Wright.
Lets not forget the likes of former world champion and current world number one, ‘The Iceman’ Gerwyn Price, Belgium’s Dimitri van den Bergh, as well as the ever consistent James Wade and recent major winner, Michael Smith.
Luke Humphries is one of the form men in the world of darts right now, and has shot up to fifth in the PDC Order of Merit all of a sudden after a phenomenal year. He has all of the capabilities of winning the tournament, of that there is no doubt.
However, our biggest fancy here at SportsLens on who we think will triumph at the famous Alexandra Palace is Northern Irish darting sensation, Josh Rock.
Despite just being 21-years-old and only securing his PDC Tour card at the beginning of the year, Josh Rock has taken the darts world by storm this year. Already, Rock has risen to 47th in the PDC Order of Merit, winning £94,000 in prize money since February.
Rock has won five PDC Development Tour titles this year, as well as being crowned the 2022 World Youth Champion just a few weeks ago. ‘Rocky’ also won his first Players’ Championship title back in October, which shows he is more than capable of hanging around with the ‘big boys’ in the world of darts.
Although this is his maiden World Championship appearance, he certainly has the game and has consistently averaged over 100 this whole year across each of the tournaments he has participated in.
At the 2022 Grand Slam of Darts, Rock was drawn against none other than Michael van Gerwen in the Last 16, eventually losing 10-8 to the great Dutchman. However, the story of the match was that Rock hit a nine darter against MVG, averaging 103.93 in the process too.
This shows that despite being relatively inexperienced, the Northern Irishman most definitely has what it takes to compete with the best darts players in the world.
We have gone for value here in our World Darts Championship prediction, rather than picking someone like van Gerwen or Gerwyn Price who are relatively short odds. Rock is a gamble, but one that could certainly pay off come the end of the tournament.
We think that at a huge price of 16/1 with Bet UK, that ‘Rocky’ has every chance of turning his good form into a major title and triumphing here at ‘Ally Pally’ in London come the New Year.
