Spanish News outlet, AS reports that Robert Lewandowski issued this directive to his agent, Pini Zahavi. This News comes only a few days after Lionel Messi received his seventh Ballon d’Or from the France Football academy. A move most football fans have called a “robbery.” It is also worth noting that just like this year 2021, the top football betting sites touted Lewandowski to win the highly coveted award in 2020.

However, the organisers chose not to organize an award ceremony, leaving Lewandowski and many football fans feeling the Bavarian was “robbed.”
Many believe this is the primary reason Robert Lewandowski seeks a move to the Spanish giants as Real Madrid have a history of Ballon d’Or winners at the club. This is not the first time the lethal goalscorer would be linked with a move to the Spanish capital.

Robert Lewandowski came close to wearing the white colours of Los Blancos in the 2012-2013 season after scoring a poker against Real Madrid in the Champions League. Florentino Perez had drafted a contract to draw the Polish striker to Madrid.
However, this move did not happen as Lewandowski’s then agent, Cezary Kucharski had committed the player to Bayern Munich on a free transfer. Robert Lewandowski changed his agent after this situation occurred.

The Polish striker also complained at Bayern Munich, trying to move away from the club as he claimed he was not being supported enough by his teammates. This was in 2017 when he lost the Bundesliga golden boot to Aubameyang. Now, the ambitious player might be even more motivated to leave the German powerhouse, especially after being “robbed” of an award many believe he rightly deserved.

Would Madrid Make A Move For The Striker?

Robert Lewandowski is 33-years old already and has a contract that runs until 2023. Real Madrid are currently not in the habit of signing players who are advanced in years. If Lewandowski were available on a free transfer, it would still be a tricky issue. This is because Real Madrid have their eyes set on landing Kylian Mbappe as the final puzzle to a forward trio that includes Karim Benzema and Vinicius Junior.

Real Madrid are unlikely to destabilize Benzema as they believe the French striker is indispensable. There would be no space for Robert Lewandowski unless one of Benzema, Mbappe, or Vinicius would have to suffer.

Still, Lewandowski would be an attractive prospect and Don Perez has a voracious appetite when it comes to signing the best players. Hence, nothing can be ruled out at this stage. We will have to watch and see how things unfold. Perhaps, we will see the Bayern legend finish his career in Real Madrid’s white colours just like his former teammate David Alaba is on course to do.
