Manchester United have confirmed they will be without the services of their captain Wayne Rooney, defender Marcos Rojo and Phil Jones, and midfield duo of Ander Herrera and Morgan Schneiderlin as they have not travelled with the squad to Germany to face Wolfsburg in the Champions League tie on Tuesday.
United’s hope of qualifying to the next round of the Europe’s best club competition depends on several factors. Should they defeat the Bundesliga outfit at the Volkswagen Arena, the Red Devils seal a place in the knockout round of the competition.
However, a defeat to Wolfsburg will then see Louis van Gaal’s side rely on the result between CSKA Moscow and PSV Eindhoven. For United to qualify for the last 16 of the Champions League, the Russian side should make sure the host fails to win in Eindhoven.
The Premier League club are without the services of seven first team players, with former Southampton midfielder joining six other players in the list of injured players at Old Trafford’s treatment room, including Luke Shaw and Antonio Valencia.
Paddy McNair picked up an injury against West Ham United on Saturday and was replaced by Guillermo Varela during the break. The Uruguayan made his first-team debut and both him and McNair have sealed a place in the squad, along with another youngster Cameron Borthwick-Jackson.
