Chelsea striker Romelu Lukaku has admitted that time has come for him to leave Stamford Bridge in the summer.
Lukaku joined Chelsea from Anderlecht in the summer of 2011, for a reported fee of €20m (including add ons). However, despite impressing heavily on two loan spells with West Brom and at Everton, he somehow has failed to create a bright impression on Jose Mourinho, the Chelsea boss.
And now he faces an uncertain future at the London club. Chelsea are looking to spend big in the summer, mainly on strikers. Already the club are on the verge of completing the £32m signing of Diego Costa before the World Cup, the West Londoners are keen to add Ezequiel Lavezzi, Mario Mandzukic and Didier Drogba to their squad as well.
Lukaku is currently with the Belgium squad preparing for the World Cup. He has already told Chelsea that he wants a transfer.
“You know Chelsea, every year they buy a new top striker. I remember me coming into the dressing room last year and seeing Samuel Eto’o and Demba Ba and going, ‘Whoah! What’s happening here?,” said Lukaku as quoted by The Telegraph.
“But no problem. Many clubs are interested in me. At this stage, I have to look to myself. I have to play a good World Cup. That’s very interesting for all the players looking for a transfer. And I must be one of them. Chelsea know my point of view.”
Spanish champions Atletico Madrid want Lukaku to replace Diego Costa, while Juventus, Tottenham and Everton are all interested in signing him as well.
