HAYDOCK SPOTLIGHT VERDICT
I find myself in agreement with the thoughts of my former colleagues on the Racing Post Spotlight desk when it comes to Saturday’s racing at Haydock and a buy of the Spreadex ‘SPOTLIGHT VERDICT’ market (set at 38-41) could be a value play. Declan Carroll has hit form in recent days and his GANNON GLORY looks interesting on his handicap debut in the opener (1.35), DOUBLE CHERRY, an impressive Goodwood winner on his handicap debut, looks capable of picking up points in the 2.05 and ESHAADA has an obvious chance in the Lancashire Oaks (2.40). The Old Newton Cup (3.15) is hugely competitive but Ben Hutton’s Spotlight pick SOMETHING ENTICING looks to have been laid out of this race by last year’s winning yard. YOUNG FIRE is three from three over 7f ay Haydock, loves soft ground, and has his ideal conditions in the 4.25.
Recommendation: Buy Racing Post SPOTLIGHT VERDICT at Haydock
BEVERLEY JOCKEYS
BEN CURTIS has a good book of rides at Beverley today and rates a buy at 41 in the JOCKEYS MARKET. COCO JACK can get the ball rolling for in-form George Scott in the 2.18 and, with the William Haggas yard on fire at present (seven winners and two thirds from their last nine runners) it will be disappointing if SERNEITY doesn’t pick up maximum points in the 4.05. He’s also on IRRESISTABLE for Haggas in the 5.15 and has two other minor chances in the 2.53 and 4.40.
Recommendation: Buy BEN CURTIS in Beverley Jockeys
LEICESTER 3.20
At the time of writing, DUCHRAY was trading as the 2-1 second favourite with Spreadex for this 6f seller but looks worth taking on for a couple of reason – 1) his sire, The Last Lion, has a terrible record with his turf runners, and 2) he’s drawn on the stands’ side rail – rarely the place to be at Leicester. Sell in the Spreadex 50-25-10 market. Fixed odds punters might want to take a chance on John Butler’s GLOBALIZATION, who has been nibbled at in the early betting.
Recommendation: Oppose DUCHRAY in Leicester 3.20
