New Schalke signing Jurado – “Offer was just too good to turn down.”

Schalke’s new €13million signing Jose Manuel Jurado has revealed that the opportunity to play for the Bundesliga outfit was just too good to turn down.

The 24 year old who has penned a four year contract with The Miners will pick up €4million per season – three times more than what he was on at Atletico. He will also embark on a Champions League campaign alongside compatriot and Spanish legend Raul.

Despite his sadness of leaving Atletico he believes his move to Germany is a positive step for his development. He also hinted of a possible return to Los Rojiblancos at some point in his career.

“The offer was too good to refuse and there are times when you cannot say no.” he explained.

“The club is very happy and me too, so there has been no problem. Schalke is a very good step in my career, I will try to do my best there and I hope it’s a see you later, not a goodbye.”

“It was difficult (leaving) because everyone has treated me very well. The fans have always treated me very well.”

He did in fact net his final goal for Atletico in their scintillating 4-0 victory over Sporting Gijon – hours before his transfer. It was a beautifully crafted goal and symbolises a fitting farewell.

The former Spanish U-21 international, who is a product of the Real Madrid academy, will also link up with Raul. Jurado has described the opportunity to do so an “honour”.

“It’s an honour to work alongside a player of such prestige”

He will be joined by Klaas-Jan Huntelaar and Nicolas Plestan who also made deadline moves to the Veltins-Arena.
