Tottenham Hotspur are thought to be locked in talks with Belgium national team manager Roberto Martinez regarding their managerial vacancy.

According to Sky Sports, the former Premier League manager could be a long term replacement for Jose Mourinho.

The Portuguese manager was sacked earlier in the season, and Ryan Mason is currently the interim manager at the London club.

Martinez has done an exceptional job with Belgium, helping them climb to the top of the FIFA rankings.

The 47-year-old has already informed friends that he’s looking to return to club management.

Martinez has done well in the Premier League previously with Wigan Athletic and Everton. He was previously linked with Liverpool and Arsenal.

Graham Potter and Ralf Rangnick are also on Tottenham’s shortlist to replace Mourinho, but Martinez appears to be in pole position.

Spurs desperately need a quality managerial appointment to convince key players like Harry Kane to remain with the club.

The 27-year-old England international has been heavily linked with a move to Manchester City this summer.

Kane is thought to be frustrated with the lack of silverware at Spurs, and Martinez will have to convince him of the club’s ambitions if he takes over.
