The Times are reporting that Chelsea are looking to send the Spaniard out on loan in order to get his wages off their books. Fabregas is the third highest earner at the club and Chelsea are not keen on paying those wages for a player who is not a part of Conte‘s plans. Apparently, he is earning around £160,000 per week.
As per the report, Fabregas lacks the physicality and the positional understanding to play in the midfield two and therefore Chelsea will pay out of their pocket to get rid of him in January.
A.C. Milan were linked with him earlier this season and it will be interesting to see if they make an offer. Fabregas joined Chelsea in 2014 for a fee of £30m and helped the Blues win the Premier League. The Spanish international had a top class season that year and seemed like a fantastic purchase from Mourinho.
However, Fabregas has seemed out of form over the past year and getting rid of him would not be a bad idea if Chelsea can sign someone more effective. Times add that Chelsea will look to sign someone during January, and Fabregas’ exit will help them complete the deal. The Blues have been linked with Pastore recently.
Fabregas has started just one game this season and it would be better for him to move during January in order to secure more game time.
Times are also reporting that Fabregas was close to joining Milan during the summer transfer window, but the deal fell through because of his high wages. That should not be a problem now, especially with Chelsea ready to subsidise his wages. Fabregas has two and a half years left on his current contract at Chelsea.
Furthermore, the report stresses that Fabregas has not had a falling out with Conte, and the Spaniard is respected by the staff because of his attitude and professionalism.
