Chelsea manager Antonio Conte is looking to sign a centre back this month and the Blues have been linked with the Benfica defender Victor Lindelof.
The Swedish international is highly rated around Europe and Antonio Conte wants him to strengthen Chelsea’s defensive options.
The 22 year old defender was a target for Manchester United as well, but Mourinho signing Eric Bailly earlier this summer has allowed Chelsea a clear run at the player now. Manchester United and Bayern Munich had scouted the Swedish international extensively.
If the reports are true and Chelsea do decide to trigger Lindelof’s release clause, a transfer could be possible. Most clubs tend to pay for transfers through installments and considering the fact that nobody else is willing to pay the player’s release clause, Benfica might accept Chelsea’s plan of payment.
The Sweden star can operate as a centre back, right back as well as a defensive midfielder and could be a great addition to Conte’s side. The likes of Cahill and Ivanovic have regressed massively and now would be a good time to move them on.
