Milwaukee Bucks vs Brooklyn Nets Preview
What a way to begin a new season of basketball – a rematch of the Eastern Conference Semi-Finals: Kevin Durant, James Harden, and the Nets vs Giannis Antetokounmpo, Jrue Holiday, and the Bucks!
Milwaukee emerged victorious in that famous series from back in June. But the Nets came close to eliminating the eventual NBA Champions. Only the length of Kevin Durant’s toe that crept over the 3-point line stopped them from pulling the plug on Milwaukee’s perfect year. And the Nets played the series without injured star James Harden, too.
Nets fans know their team is a different proposition altogether when Harden is in the starting lineup, and the 2018 MVP always seems to spring to life when facing his great rival the Greek Freak so expect to see a fiercely contested opening game tonight.
The Bucks have certainly found life hard-going during the preseason fixtures, losing four of five games played, including a closely fought 119-115 defeat to tonight’s opponents, the Nets. However, though Thanasis did appear on court, brother Giannis, Jrue Holiday, Kris Middleton, and a host of other stars didn’t feature at all – so there’s no point in reading too much into that particular loss.
The Brooklyn Nets played four and won three over the course of the preseason, including a 107-101 victory over the Minnesota Timberwolves just four days ago. Kevin Durant has been in superb form as always and looks to be enjoying having James Harden – the NBA’s No.2 ranked player for assists (10.2 per game) sharing the workload back alongside him.
Milwaukee Bucks vs Brooklyn Nets Team News
Bucks’ defensive stalwart, center Bobby Portis is out of tonight’s game with a hamstring injury according to reports. Mike Budenholzer’s team is also likely to be without Rodney Hood. Small forward Khris Middleton, who averaged 20.0+ PPG last season has, however, been declared to fit to play.
The Nets will be without Kyrie Irving. The point guard who averaged over 26.0 PPG last season is still refusing his COVID vaccine and is now in exile after the Nets organization opted to send him on garden leave until he has a change of stance.
NBA Picks: Milwaukee Bucks vs Brooklyn Nets
With a refreshed Antetokounmpo set to feature prominently, Milwaukee Bucks are capable of putting up bucket loads of points and just as able to shut out the majority of teams on defense, too. The Bucks boast the 6th ranked defense in NBA last season. So, to beat this championship-winning side during their homecoming parade at the Fiserv Forum, it’s going to take a special team…
And that is exactly what you have in the Brooklyn Nets: a special team. Durant and co. averaged 117.7 points per game last season, and led the entire league in shooting percentage (49.1).
With Middleton perhaps not at full fitness for the Bucks, but with James Harden back in the starting lineup to assist Durant for Brooklyn, we favor the Nets to edge out a close one and take revenge for the closely contested Eastern Conference Semi-Final defeat – even without Kyrie Irving.
Nets to win on the moneyline (-102) is our NBA Pick for tonight’s game.
