Juventus centre-back Giorgio Chiellini has dismissed talk of a summer exit amid rumours of Real Madrid preparing a bid for the defender.
New Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti has made Giorgio Chiellini his summer target, after defender Ricardo Carvalho left the La Liga runners-up to join AS Monaco, and current centre-back Pepe has been ever-linked to a potential move to Premier League runners-up Manchester City.
‘If Real Madrid make me an offer it wouldn’t go through my head at this time to leave Juventus. Right now that there is a project. This is not a club that sells. Rather it is a club that wants to build. Now that we have added a few more pieces, and we are more solid, we aim to continue on this path.’ – Giorgio Chiellini.
The 28-year old has become one of the best central defenders in the world since joining the Old Lady from Italian side Fiorentina in 2005. During his 8 years with Juve, he’s gone on to make 275 appearances, scoring 23 goals.
He recently featured in this summer’s Confederations Cup for Italy – in which he made five appearances, leading the side to the semi-finals.
Last season he made 24 Serie A appearances for Juventus, scoring once. He suffered from a number of injuries which saw him sidelined for a large chunk of the 2012/13 campaign, but his side went on to win the Serie A title.
Real Madrid were reportedly set to offer €22M for the Italian international, but may have to consider upping their bid to procure his signature.
While Chiellini is adamant he has no plans to leave, Ancelotti has admitted he wants the 28-year old in Spain for the coming season, and will do anything it takes to make it happen.
With the La Liga side gunning to win back the title, and hoping to end an 11-year Champions League trophy drought, they are willing to pay over the odds for their summer targets.
