World Cup winner – ‘I did not join Man United just because of Van Gaal’

Manchester United midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger has claimed that reason behind his move to England is not just Van Gaal.

The former Bayern Munich midfielder claimed that although he is delighted to work with a world class manager like Van Gaal, the main reason he joined United was because of the prestige of playing for such an iconic club.

Schweinsteiger claimed that he would have left Bayern for only one club in the world and that is Manchester United.

The world cup winner has now reiterated his claim while speaking to the German publication, Bild.

‘When you know how the coach ticks, and how he wants to play football, it makes the decision easier. But for the main part I came to England because of the club Manchester United.

‘It’s not like I can say: I have signed for three years, now we’ll win three straight titles. The Premier League is a very strong league. Chelsea, Manchester City, Arsenal and Liverpool all have a high quality.

‘But those who know me also know that I always want to win titles. And I think that Manchester United are a club which can win titles.

‘I am convinced that it is possible to usher in a new era at Manchester United – especially under Louis van Gaal. Just like when he took over at Bayern. That excites me.

Schweinsteiger also promised the fans that he will do everything in his power to help United return to their former glories.

‘I can promise that I will give it my all and will try to help the club reach the level of Real Madrid, Barcelona and Bayern once again.’
