SANDOWN FAVOURITES
The Spreadex FAVOURITES market at Sandown, quoted at 70-74 at the time of writing, might be set a little high and is worth selling. The opening amateur riders’ handicap chase (12.45) has not been a good race for the market leaders in recent years and short-priced favourite BALI BODY is likely to be ridden patiently on a track that typically favours early pace. FOREVER BLESSED is all the rage for the 1.15 but has to carry a penalty for his Ffos Las win and we saw a 4-7 favourite finish unplaced in this contest 12 months ago. HALO DES OBEAUX (1.50) arrives here on the back of a fall, though BRAVE KINGDOM might be harder to beat in the 2.25 having scored impressively at Chepstow last time. DESQUE DE L’ISLE (3.00) is ridden by an inexperienced jockey who is having his first mount at Sandown and the finale (3.35) looks open and competitive. Fixed odds punters have the option of backing under 55 with Spreadex at 3-1 and covering on 55-75 at 11-8. NEWCASTLE ‘DOUBLE DRAW’
With only one round-course race at Newcastle and a host of big-field contests on the straight course, it could be worth buying the Spreadex ‘DOUBLE DRAW’ market (currently set at 99-103). It’s very difficult to win from a low draw on the straight course, with stalls 1 and 2 sharing just two wins from 80 runners since November 1st this year. Plenty of those drawn high are on my shortlist for today’s meeting, notably ROYAL PROSPECT, who has stall 14 in the 3.45, AYR EMPRESS (stall 11 in the 4.15) and SPARTAN FIGHTER (stall 12 in the 4.45).
