Andrew has no less than seven bets across five races on a very busy Monday (May 9th). Please note’s he’s taking a deserved short break and will return with a column on Saturday, May 14th. Follow his tips this week and all year round on horse racing betting sites with the lowdown on his latest picks below:
LADY HOLLYWOOD (system – Amo Racing-owned newcomers)
Since the beginning of last year, owners Amo Racing have a 16 from 59 record with their newcomers (both two and three-year-olds) and backing them blind would have returned a profit of £38.88 to a £1 level stake at SP. LADY HOLLYWOOD can keep the ball rolling with victory in this 5f fillies’ maiden.
COBRA KAI & ANTWASAPRETTYPENNY (system – Ben Haslam long travellers, handicaps, recent run)
Ben Haslam has a sound record with his handicappers who travel 150 miles or longer to the races and those who were race fit (ran within the last fortnight) won nine of their 26 starts since 2010 (34.6% strike-rate) for a profit of £20.05 to a £1 level stake at SP. He complicates matters by running two in this 1m handicap but both COBRAI KAI (stall 1) and ANTWASAPRETTYPENNY (stall 2) are well drawn and I’m happy to ‘dutch’ the pair against short-priced favourite Rum Going On.
MILLION THANKS (system – Kevin Ryan 3yos, first run after wind surgery)
Kevin Ryan has a healthy record with his three-year-olds on their first start back following a wind operation, scoring with six of the 32 qualifiers (since late January 2018 when wind ops had to be declared) for a profit of £10.63 to a £1 level stake at SP. MILLION THANKS fared best of the prominent racers when third at Newcastle last time and can get off the mark here.
CAPRICIA (system – Martin Keighley, Southwell jumps)
Trainer Martin Keighley has a 36 from 197 record with his runners under National Hunt Rules at Southwell and backing them blind would have returned a profit of £57.87 to a £1 level stake at SP. His chasers tend to outperform his hurdlers and bumper runners, landing 14 of their 47 starts for a profit of £62.16 and CAPRICIA, though a 13-race maiden, is worth one more chance in a weak contest.
DREAMSUNDERMYFEET & REVE (system – Martin Keighley, Southwell jumps)
DREAMSUNDERMYFEET & REVE are qualifiers on the same angle as Capricia (see above) and the former was backed from 10-1 into 5-1 when the betting first opened on Sunday. His record here reads 1113 (3-4) and he looks the obvious one, though I’ll simply ‘dutch’ the pair (i.e. back them to win the same amount).
