Barnsley will be looking for just their third win of a dismal Championship campaign when they host Cardiff City at Oakwell on Wednesday night.

The Tykes are aiming to break a four-game losing streak in English football’s second tier against fellow strugglers Cardiff, with the visitors a slight favourite in the eyes of the bookmakers.

Barnsley vs Cardiff City preview

Relegation is staring Barnsley ominously in the face ahead of a must-win clash with a Cardiff side who looked somewhat rejuvenated last time out against Nottingham Forest.

Both of the Yorkshire outfit’s wins have come at home but they have not tasted Championship victory since beating Derby County 2-1 in early November.

Defeat at home to Cardiff would leave Barnsley eight points adrift of safety and 15 behind their opponents.

With goals hard to come by, Tyke’s new boss Poya Asbaghi is still waiting to celebrate taking three points in the league, although Barnsley did manage to reach the FA Cup fourth round by beating Barrow 5-4 after extra time.

Cardiff, meanwhile, eased the pressure on manager Steve Morison with an impressive 2-1 win over playoff candidates Nottingham Forest on Sunday.

Despite losing talismanic striker Kieffer Moore to Bournemouth, the Bluebirds have done well to replace him with Jordan Hugill on loan from Norwich City.

The 29-year-old netted on his home debut against Forest and his confidence will be sky high ahead of Cardiff’s trip to struggling Barnsley.

Attacking midfielder Domingos Quina’s loan move from Watford has now been confirmed and he could go straight into Barnsley’s starting line-up on Wednesday.

Injuries are unfortunately mounting up for Tykes boss Asbaghi, although midfielder Josh Benson could be in with the chance of a recall.

But the bottom-placed Championship side are still likely to be missing Aapo Halme and Callum Brittain both with leg injuries, while Carlton Morris is isolating after testing positive for COVID.

Victor Adeboyejo is a doubt, as is Liam Kitching who suffered a concussion in training, while Claudio Gomes, Clarke Oduor and Cauley Woodrow are also set to miss out though injury.

Barnsley predicted line-up vs Cardiff City:

(3-5-2): Collins; Moon, Helik, Anderson; Williams, Palmer, Quina, Styles, Vita; Cole, Iseka

With virtually no injuries to contend with, Cardiff boss Morison has a full squad to select from.

He may, however, be hesitant to make any unforced changes to his side that confidently saw off the challenge of Nottingham Forest at the weekend.

Isaak Davies may still be hopeful of securing a starting berth after scoring as a substitute, while Wales international defensive midfielder Will Vaulks will be desperate to regain his place.

Cardiff City predicted line-up vs Barnsley:
