Bayern Munich winger Xherdan Shaqiri’s future has been well speculated in the media. The Swiss international has been a reported target of several Premier League clubs, while Serie A clubs are also in the hunt for his signature.
The 23-year-old is a supremely gifted talent but he hardly gets regular game at Bayern Munich, for the German giants have an avalanche of attacking midfield options, where world class players like Muller, Robben, Ribery and Gotze are ahead in pecking orders.
Pep Guardiola insisted that Shaqiri is a good super-sub but for a player of his talent, he hardly can remain content with that. Obviously, he has won Bundesliga title and Champions League title with Munich, but at his age, he would be looking to play for a team regularly, than picking up medals without being contributing too much.
Shaqiri’s agent, who is also his brother, said in an interview that if Manchester United and Liverpool come calling, they would certainly listen to it. He said back in March, as quoted by Blick:
“Xherdan is 22. At this age, he needs to play regularly, which is not currently the case. We are now waiting safely until summer. Then, when teams come as Liverpool, Manchester United, Inter Milan and other top clubs we hear that to us safely.”
Shaqiri has a contract till 2016 and has a market value of €25m. Bundesliga club Gladbach is also interested in him, but such move would be a step backwards for his career.
Blick has published an article today speculating on his future where they claim Shaqiri could be on his way out of Bayern Munich in January. Several Premier League clubs like Arsenal, Manchester United and Tottenham have shown a keen interest to sign him. La Liga giants Atletico Madrid could also make a move.
