Leeds United legend Tony Yeboah delivered a heartfelt message to the Whites fans and claimed that the Whites deserve to be in the Premiership next season.
Yeboah has hailed the Leeds fans as ‘fantastic’ and admitted that he probably wouldn’t be where he is today without their support. He added that he is keeping his fingers crossed for his old club to get back to England’s top tier after a 15-year gap.
He was at Leeds from 1994-97, and during this time, he was the club’s top goalscorer for two seasons, scoring 29 goals in total. Yeboah claimed that it was the support of the Leeds fans that gave him the strength to continue his excellent form.
“I was not here too long – only two-and-a-half years – but I had a great time with the players and the fans,” said the 53-year-old to the Express.
“The fans especially, they were fantastic. I have to tell the Leeds fans they are fantastic, they are super fans. Maybe without them I would not be where I am today.
“The fans and the club deserve to be back in the Premier League. They have the qualities, a fantastic stadium and fantastic management. We are all keeping our fingers crossed that Leeds can come back to the Premier League.”
Leeds are currently top of the Championship table, one point above West Bromwich Albion and seven points clear of the play-off places.
At this moment, football in the UK has been postponed due to the Covid-19 pandemic, and nobody knows when the league will resume. With nine games left to play, it is still not entirely clear how the season will progress.
The EFL, however, is keen to finish the current campaign. Leeds failed to secure promotion last season, and the fans will be hoping that Marcelo Bielsa’s side will not make the same mistakes again.
