arjen-robbenFormer Holland international Bryan Roy has revealed incoming Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal is desperate to sign Bayern Munich star Arjen Robben this summer.

The 62-year-old will take the reigns at Old Trafford after stepping down his post as the Holland manager after the completion of the 2014 FIFA World Cup with his national side. The former Chelsea and Real Madrid star has been linked with a move to United since Van Gaal was appointed as David Moyesā€™ successor.

Roy, who currently is the Ajax youth team coach claims Robben is happy with the Bundesliga champions, but situation could change and he might follow Van Gaal to Old Trafford.

ā€œI think Louis wants him desperately to come to Manchester United. Bayern Munich is also a big club and he is very happy there but you never know. With football, everything is possible,ā€ Roy told Talksport.

Earlier in May, Robben put the recent speculations linking him to play under the former Barcelona manager at United to bed. The 30-year-old revealed that he is happy with his current employers and is not looking for a switch in the summer transfer window.

ā€œManchester United? That’s not an option. I am staying at Bayern Munich. Period. And I cannot imagine that Bayern would want to sell me,ā€ Robben told the Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf.

“I have only just renewed my contract and we are happy with each other. It would have been a different story had I been unhappy.ā€

ā€œI would have been open to a move then, because I had a great time under Van Gaal at Bayern. He has been very important for my career. However, fact is that I am very happy at my current club,ā€ Bayer star concluded.

Van Gaal will take over United after they had a season to forget under the guidance of David Moyes. The Scot replaced the Red Devilsā€™ legendary manager Sir Alex Ferguson and was sacked just 10 months into his six-year contract after a disappointing campaign.

Roy believes the Old Trafford club have made the right decision in appointing Van Gaal as the successor to the former Everton boss.

ā€œManchester United has made a very good choice to pick Louis van Gaal, Everybody sees it now at the World Cup. He really knows how to make a team play very well,ā€ Roy said.

United have not made a signing in the summer transfer window and are not eligible to feature in the Champions League next season. After a poor campaign during the 2013-14 season, the Old Trafford faithful would be hoping that Van Gaal could change things for the Red Dveils and help them return to the European competition a year later.
