NEWMARKET JOCKEYS
The yard of Charlie & Mark Johnston could be set for another good day at Newmarket and a buy of jockey JOE FANNING (market set at 24-26) could pay dividends. He scored on 11-1 shot Living Legend in Group 2 company here yesterday and has five rides for the yard today. STATE OF BLISS looks rock solid in the 4,15, a race in which the yard is bidding for it’s four winner from the last ten renewals, while pace angle FOREST FALCON should pick up points in the 2.25. IF YOU DARE (1.50) has a less obvious chance but if the GoingStick is right, his low draw could be an advantage. SPIRIT CATCHER scored last time out and is trading at around 9-2 for the 4.50, while RAINBOW COLOURS might get an easy lead in the 5.25 and could go well at a big price.
Recommendation: Buy JOE FANNING in Newmarket Jockeys market
NEWMARKET 4.15
I want to oppose both TRITONIC (7-9) and SCARLET DRAGON (10-13) in this 1m4f handicap. Both are best coming late off a strong pace in big fields and could prove vulnerable in this seven-runner line-up on Newmarket’s wide-open spaces. Tritonic’s record in fields of seven or fewer runners reads 262424 (0-6) and in the past five years Scarlet Dragon is 0-24 in fields of 12 or fewer runners. Sell both in the Spreadex 50-25-10 race market. Fixed odds punters might like to side with STATE OF BLISS, whose yard does well in this race.
Recommendation: Oppose TRITONIC & SCARLET DRAGON in Newmarket 4.15
HEXHAM 7.20
STONEY MOUNTAIN is odds-on for this novices’ chase but hasn’t taken to fences previously. He unseated on his chase debut when 11-4 at Cheltenham in December 2019 and jumped abysmally when beaten by 31 lengths into third of four at Ludlow 12 months later on his only other run over the larger obstacles. He started as the 9-4 co-favourite that day and looks vulnerable again. This wouldn’t be his time of year either – he tends to peak from October to December – and looks a sell in the Spreadex 50-25-10 market. Fixed odds punters might want to side with Mark Walford’s chase debutant FLOATING ROCK.
Recommendation: Oppose STONEY MOUNTAIN in Hexham 7.20
