Paul Pogba

Since joining Juventus on a free transfer from Manchester United, Paul Pogba has developed into a top-class midfielder. The France midfielder is viewed as one of the young best midfielders in the world, but Pogba insists he hasn’t achieved anything yet and wants to become a complete midfielder.

Pogba is a typical box-to-box midfielder. He is an all-round player who likes to dominate the midfield in every possible sense. At 23, he is already an established international but Pogba wants to become a “new midfielder” by integrating aspects of all the best in history.

When asked to elucidate, he told Simon Kuper in an interview with ESPN FC: “Doing everything: defend, attack, score, give assists, tackle, win back the ball. Be a leader on the field.”

Pogba indeed is a leader on the pitch. Juventus have an avalanche of top midfielders in their squad but Pogba seems to be the central driving force for his side.

The 23-year-old has won four Serie A titles in a row, as well as a Coppa Italia, and reached the final of the 2015 Champions League since joining Juventus in 2012.

When asked how he intends to become the ultimate midfielder and the player he aspires to emulate, Pogba says that he wants to take inspiration from great footballers and apply it to his own game.

“Ronaldo, Ronaldinho, [Lionel] Messi, everyone. [Andres] Iniesta,” he added. “I’m serious. All players rolled into one.

“From defensive midfielder to attacking midfielder to attacker. I want to take the qualities from everyone. I’d like to get to the level where I have everything: [Patrick] Vieira, [Didier] Deschamps, Zidane, Ronaldinho, [Thierry] Henry, Ronaldo. It wouldn’t be bad, that.

Pogba believes that he has been progressing well in his career and wants to raise the level of his game every time. The French star is a key player for his nation and he is expected to take Euro 2016 by storm this summer.

The former Manchester United star doesn’t think that he has reached the pinnacle of his career and hasn’t done anything significant yet, but he dreams of becoming a world-class player in the future.

“I don’t think I am a great; I think I’ve done nothing,” he said. “I’ve done nothing in soccer. I’ve won leagues, but I haven’t won the Champions League, the World Cup, the Euros. Winning Euro 2016 in France, that wouldn’t be bad. I want to work, to be a great, to win everything.”
