Manchester United have agreed a deal to sign Marcos Rojo from Sporting. The Argentine who generally plays as a left-back is equally adept at playing in central defence too.
Having said that, Louis van Gaal may still need one more quality centre-back before the window shuts.
United were thought to be a long term admirer of Mehdi Benatia, the highly rated Moroccan central defender, who plays for Roma.
There have been all sports of rumours on Benatia. But the crux of the story something runs like this:
Benatia doesn’t want to continue with Roma but is not keen to force through a move. Chelsea were thought to be interested (judging by the media reports) though Jose Mourinho openly claimed that the club is not looking to sign him.
Roma are trying their best to tie him with a fat contract. GDM reported yesterday that Benatia’s agent would hold talks with Roma officials and that the defender could stay beyond the summer.
According to latest report from L’Equipe, Benatia wants to join Bayern Munich. His agent has agreed to terms with Bayern where the German giants have put a €30m offer on the table.
Good news for English clubs – Rome have refused the offer and instead have put a €35m price tag on his shoulders. Roma are looking for an alternative should they lose him and are looking at the options of signing Matija Nastasic from Manchester City.
