This summer, like every other summer, Manchester United were linked with a move for almost every top players in the world.
While most of them are media-driven speculations and wild rumours, but there were few for whom United showed real interest.
Bayern Munich’s Thomas Muller is one of them.
Throughout the summer, we have covered various reports on Muller and United’s interest in him, but the player wasn’t interested in leaving, neither Bayern were keen to sell.
According to super agent Giovanni Branchini, Manchester United wanted Thomas Muller “at all costs” this summer.
Manchester United made many bids for Thomas #Muller, during the summer. But #Bayern Munich always answered that he’s not for sale. #MUFC

United were prepared to shell out any money to bring the 26-year-old forward to Old Trafford.
There were reports of formal bids from United, in the region of 71m, but as I said earlier, Bayern weren’t interested in selling him.
In a Q&A with calciomercato.com, (via Daily Mail) he was asked to reveal the truth behind the rumour:
“Manchester United wanted Thomas Muller at all costs,” Branchini responded, before adding: “I’ve spent days trying to explain Bayern Munich would never let him leave – so in the end they changed their mind.”
Muller has been in outstanding form this season for Bayern.
The German midfielder has scored six goals already in Bundesliga, further adding two more in the Champions League.
Muller would have been a terrific signing for the Red Devils, and surely United would try again for him next summer.

He is a typical attacking forward, who loves to take shots on goal and making key passes.
Muller with a 3.9 shots per game stands apart than any United player. Memphis Depay comes close with a 3.6 (via whoscored) shots per game.
Likewise, Muller manages an average of 1.9 key passes per game, which is way above than all United players except Juan Mata.
But then again, Mata’s shot per game ratio is pretty average.
Muller is a complete forward, every manager would love to have in their team.
United though have found a real gem in Anthony Martial – the 19-year-old kid signed from Monaco for £36m in the summer.
The youngster has set the Premier League alight by scoring four goals already, and has become an instant fan favourite.
