Manchester United have been handed a massive boost in signing Bayern Munich star Bastian Schweinsteiger after Pep Guardiola admitted only the midfielder will decide his future.
The 30-year-old has one year left on his contract and major publications in England and also in Germany reported that Louis van Gaal wants to reunite with his former player at Old Trafford.
The former Barcelona manager has admitted that he or Bayern chief executive Karl-Heinz Rummenigge will not be able to decide the World Cup winning midfielder’s future.
“I can’t make the call for Basti. He’s a Bayern player, and he is under contract. He’s an outstanding legend at the club, but he has to decide, not Pep or [CEO] Karl-Heinz Rummenigge. He has a contract, and is part of my plans for next season,” Guardiola said.
Meanwhile, Schweinsteiger has also revealed earlier that he is in no hurry to extend his stay at the Allianz Arena beyond his current deal. The midfielder came up through the ranks of Bayern and has been the Bundesliga champions ever since.
“I am in no hurry to renew. It is not something that bothers me because I have a year left before it expires. The important thing is that my physical problems and injuries are resolved. The rest will follow,” Schweinsteiger said.
It is believed that United have already made contact with Bayern if the player is available. With Guardiola’s latest comments, it looks like now the Premier League giants will do everything possible to sign Schweinsteiger.
