Manchester City have renewed their interest in Borussia Dortmund striker Robert Lewandowski as they look to replace Carlos Tevez, who sealed a move to Italy with Turin giants Juventus, reports Daily Mirror.

The 24-year-old has been targeted by several top clubs in England but the striker has a personal preference to join the Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich.

Having already sold Mario Gotze to Munich for €37 million, Dortmund were in no position to sell another prized asset to their rivals. Therefore, a move to the Premier League was the only way out for the Polish striker.

However, Dortmund general manager Hans-Joachim Watzke claimed couple of weeks back that the striker won’t be sold in the summer, asserting Lewandowski “will definitely be playing for Borussia Dortmund next season”.

Though Dortmund would resist any temptations dangled at them by Munich, the chances of selling him abroad cannot be ruled out either as the club would be willing to bank £25 million for the striker, rather than losing him for free next season.

Chelsea and Manchester United were also strongly linked with the striker, but the Blues have shifted their attention to Napoli’s star striker Edinson Cavani while United’s interest has cooled off since the appointment of David Moyes as the successor of Sir Alex Ferguson.

City themselves have distanced away from entering into a bidding war for Cavani while it’s highly unlikely that they would battle with Real Madrid for Liverpool’s unsettled striker Luis Suarez.

So, theoretically, City have no competitions at all in the race to sign Lewandowski. They are in the market for a proven goal-scorer having sold Tevez to Serie A giants Juventus on Wednesday.

Daily Star further reports that City could tempt Dortmund by offering Edin Dzeko as a part of the player-plus-cash offer and could be offering the same £200,000-a-week contract that Tevez was on.
