Manchester United manager Louis Van Gaal has been linked with a move away from Old Trafford this summer but if the reports from Dutch media are to be believed, the Dutchman could well be in charge of the Premier League giants beyond this summer.
De Telegraaf are claiming that Van Gaal is set to stay at Manchester United and his transfer budget for this summer has also been revealed.
According to the report, Van Gaal has received assurances that he will be allowed to spend around 100 million Euros on new signings.
Judging by his achievements so far, it could be a vital decision by the club to stick with Van Gaal for another season.
Mourinho has been linked with the Manchester United job as well. The Dutchman has failed to impress the fans this season and it would be a major shock to the fans if he were to stay.
The Dutchman is keen on signing the Everton striker Romelu Lukaku this summer and the club will back his decision in the market. The Belgian forward could cost around 70 million Euros.
Manchester United do need a striker next season and Lukaku has been outstanding for the Toffees since joining them permanently from Chelsea.
In other news, former Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has revealed that the club chose David De Gea as their number one keeper ahead of the Bayern Munich star Manuel Neuer.
The Scottish manager has revealed that he was very interested in signing Neuer as United’s first choice keeper after Van Der Sar.
According to the club legend, Manchester United scout Eric Steele insisted on signing the Spaniard ahead of the World Cup winner a few years ago.
Looking back at it now, it looks like a fantastic decision considering the age of both players and the way De Gea has performed for the Old Trafford giants.
“Eric Steele had been scouting David De Gea for quite a while, but then Neuer came on the scene at Schalke,” Ferguson told Sky Sports. “And I think Schalke would have been happy if we’d have gone and taken him.”
And I think Schalke would have been happy if we’d have gone and taken him.”
“So, my problem was Eric because he was adamant that we must take De Gea. I said ‘Eric, the boy Neuer is the complete unit; he’s mature, his physique is unbelievable,’ and he says ‘yeah, but in three years’ time, De Gea will be better.’ I said ‘that’s a statement’.”
“Eric and I went out to watch him [De Gea] against Valencia away, and the things he’d been speaking about — his agility, his confidence, his speed — were evident.”
“And Eric had been building a relationship with his parents, and was so adamant, that I had to trust him — and I’m glad I did, because he was right.”
