Luis Suarez remains the only thorn in the flesh for Liverpool, in an otherwise an excellent and commendable summer transfer window for the Reds so far.
The 26-year-old Uruguayan has been chased by several European heavy weights, including the likes of Real Madrid and Bayern Munich, following admissions from the player himself that he is getting dis-enchanted with life in England and is actively seeking a move abroad.
While it is no rocket science that it is just a nice ploy to ring the alarm bells on the corridors of continental journey, Suarez’s suave admonishing of the English media for his situation turned out to be rather hypocritical following a bizarre report last night.
Spanish newspaper AS claimed Premier League giants Chelsea have emerged as shock destination for the Uruguayan and the Blues would be looking to prize him away with a deal worth €40 million.
Liverpool have been maintaining a rigidifying stance over Suarez since the day he first vented his frustration in the media. Not for a single moment, the club gave out an impression that they have buckled down under the pressure of Suarez’s demands, rather, the Reds have been diplomatic in their approach.
It seems like they have learnt from their mistakes of the past. For the first time in many years, the morbidity around Anfield is replaced with a positive buzz, and it gives a feel that the Reds have done their homework very well with regards to their handling of the transfer market.
According to reports from The Mirror, Suarez has been given three weeks’ time to sort out his future, lest, he will have to forget about greener pastures and commit his future at the Anfield club.
To replace a player of Suarez’s stature is probably difficult, but there is no dearth of quality players in this world, and certainly it would give Liverpool the opportunity to replenish in other areas of the pitch too using the transfer money.
Liverpool are giving the impression that Suarez is no longer an indispensable asset and the club could be ready to march on without him, if that’s how situation pans out in the end.
Now whether it goes to plan and works out in favour of the Merseysiders is a conjecture at the moment, but Liverpool’s determination to go out and sign value for money talents rather than overpriced British players suggests that the Anfield outfit could not go very wrong this time around.
