Lingfield Derby Trial Tips and Best Bets

The ‘boys in blue’ of Godolphin won this race in 2017 and look to have a big chance of adding to that in 2022 with WALK OF STARS @ 10/11 with 888Sport.. This well-bred Dubawi colt is the top-rated in the field (107) and heads here having won a Conditions race at Newbury last time out with a bit up his sleeve.

Yes, he only won by a neck, but you feel there was more in the locker if needed for this Charlie Appleby-trained runner. That was also only his third career run and also his first back from 165-days off, so can be expected to have come on for it too.

William Buick rides and he’s entered in the Epsom Derby next month @ 7/1 with 888Sport. A win here and you feel those odds of 7/1 for the Epsom Derby will vanish quickly.

Of the rest, the Aidan O’Brien yard had a cracking time of it at Chester last midweek and this is a race they’ve won 5 times in the last 19 runnings so do like to target it – they run United Nations.

This Galileo colt was, however, only fourth at Epsom in their Blue Riband Trial last month and even though he can improve for the longer trip, would need to leave that form behind here. Does have an entry for the Epsom Derby though.

Godolphin also run Natural World, but jockey bookings (Jack Mitchell) suggest this is very much their second string behind Walk Of Stars.

Zechariah and Lionel make up the five runners and have shown a fair level of form to warrant respect, but Walk Of Stars sets a fair standard and is worth sticking with.
