Bayern Munich star Arjen Robben has put the recent speculations linking him with a move to Manchester United to bed.
The Dutchman is currently with the Holland national team and he has close association with the 62-year-old manager. The former Chelsea winger was linked with a move to Old Trafford after the Red Devils announced the appointment of Louis van Gaal.
Robben broke his silence and suggested that he has no intentions to leave the Bundesliga champions. However, the Dutch international admitted that if he were to be unhappy at the Allianz Arena, the situation would have been different.
“Manchester United? That’s not an option. I am staying at Bayern Munich. Period. And I cannot imagine that Bayern would want to sell me,ā Robben told the Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf.
“I have only just renewed my contract and we are happy with each other. It would have been a different story had I been unhappy.ā
“I would have been open to a move then, because I had a great time under Van Gaal at Bayern. He has been very important for my career. However, fact is that I am very happy at my current club,ā he added.
Van Gaal will replace David Moyes as United manager for the next season after the Red Devils endured a horrible run under the guidance of the former Everton boss. They finished seventh in the league table and are out of next seasonās European competition.
Robben believes Van Gaalās appointment was the right decision taken by the Old Trafford outfit.
“I think United did great to appoint Van Gaal,” Bayern star concluded.
