Manchester United and Chelsea have suffered a massive blow in signing Bayern Munich star Toni Kroos after the midfielder admitted that he will join Real Madrid this summer.
The German international has one year left on his contract with the Bundesliga champions and had earlier rejected a chance to sign a new deal. Since then, the €25m-rated midfielder has been strongly linked with a move to the Premier League, with United and Chelsea reportedly interested in his services.
Kroos started for Germany in the 2014 FIFA World Cup final against Argentina, where Joachim Low’s side were finally victorious with a goal from Mario Gotze in the second half of the extra time.
The German midfielder that he has completed two dreams, first by winning the World Cup and the next one by revealing that he would join the Champions League winners.
“We’ve finished the World Cup in the best way possible. Now I’m going to Madrid, so that’s two dreams achieved,” Kroos said, as reported by Sky Sports.
The former United manager David Moyes has long been interested in signing Kroos. However, the arrival of Louis van Gaal as the successor to the former Everton boss ended the Red Devils’ interest.
In addition to this, the Old Trafford club has already secured a deal for Ander Herrera from Atheltic Bilbao. After capturing the Spaniard’s signature, it was very evident that United would end their interest in Kroos and so did the player.
Meanwhile, Chelsea have a strong midfield and they were still keen on persuading for Kroos. They signed Cesc Fabregas from Barcelona and the arrival of the former Arsenal skipper made it difficult for Kroos to get regular playing time in their midfield.
Kroos is a talented midfielder and his addition to Real would further strengthen their squad. Despite United and Chelsea signing a midfielder this summer, the World Cup star’s addition would have bolster their midfield for the next season.
