Bayern Munich are currently 6th in the Bundesliga, 7 points of the pace, and it has been their inability to finish games off that has cost them so far this season.
It was the same story midweek in the Champions League, where Bayern took the lead against Bordeaux early on only to concede a goal and be reduced to ten men, giving the home side an advantage they cashed in on as they beat the german giants 2-1.
Bayern won their last league game (another scrappy 2-1 encounter) and have an impressive past record against Eintracht Frankfurt, but will they be able to counter the impact of losing Ribery for another few weeks?
Frankfurt Preview
Frankfurt are just two points behind Bayern in the league table going into this game, although they hadn’t won a game at home this season until last week when they beat Hannover 96 2-1.
Selim Teber missed the Hannover game due to suspension, but is expected to return to the starting XI for the Bayern game. Marco Russ and Pirmin Schwegler also missed the Hannover game.
Frankfurt are the underdogs going into this game but they’ll be aware of Bayern’s problems in the last few years and will know that taking the fight to Bayern is half the battle won.
Both teams will also meet next week in the DFB Pokal.
Bayern Munich v Frankfurt Prediction
Bayern have an impressive record against Frankfurt and are at that stage of the season where if they don’t kick-on and start making up the points difference (especially with Schalke and Hamburg playing each other, the other teams above Bayern playing away from home and Bayer drawing 1-1), they will start putting immense pressure on themselves.
With that in mind, Bayern should win this game.
