Real Madrid midfielder Xabi Alonso is closing in on a move to Bayern Munich, according to reports.
German newspaper Bild are reporting that Bayern Munich are on the verge of a loan move for the retired Spanish international.
Bayern Munich are offering €10 million to loan the 32-year old for two seasons.
The German Bundesliga champions are without Javi Martínez and Thiago Alcântara for the long-term through injuries whilst Bastian Schweinsteiger too is out injured.
Earlier today Xabi Alonso announced his retirement from international football having made 114 appearances for Spain, scoring 16 goals.
Following the signing of Toni Kroos this summer and the return of Sami Khedira who missed most of last season through injury, Xabi Alonso was not expected to be a big part of Real Madrid’s plans this season.
The 2014 UEFA Champions League winners have a number of options in the centre of their midfield.
If Bayern Munich are able to wrap up this transfer it would be the second signing by Pep Guardiola’s side this week following the €30 million arrival of centre-back Mehdi Benatia from AS Roma.
Xabi Alonso joined Real Madrid from Liverpool in 2009. He has won La Liga and Champions League one occasion each with the world football giants, and the Copa del Rey twice.
