Bayern Munich winger Arjen Robben has said that Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal has played a big role in shaping his career but right now he is not looking to join Old Trafford any time soon.

Robin reflected on his Chelsea days when he enjoyed a trophy laden career but was eventually sold by Jose Mourinho.

The Dutchman insists that Mourinho helped him grow mentally but it was his recurrent injuries that led to his departure more than anything else.

While Guardiola polished his talents, it was Louis van Gaal who ‘made’ him the player he is today.

“From the first day he made me feel important,’ Robben said to Daily Mail. ‘He gave me an important role and I had a great first year. I am very thankful to him. He is a coach who makes individual players better. That is rare nowadays.

“I have a lot of confidence he will be a success,’ he says. ‘He needs time to build his team. When he qualifies for the Champions League — and he has a realistic chance of winning the FA Cup — if that happens, he has had a great season.

Robben was linked with a move to United last summer, but the Dutchman said that was never an option given the life he has had at Bayern.

‘The life I have with my family is so good, the team has been successful. If things were not going so well, maybe (joining United) would be the first option,’ he adds, smiling. ‘But he knows I am happy.”

Robben has had a successful career with the German outfit where he won three Bundesliga titles and one Champions League.
