Former Bayern Munich superstar, Bastian Schweinsteiger has been likened to Manchester United legend Paul Scholes.
Speaking at a press conference, United fan Usain Bolt claimed that Schweinsteiger could be the man to replace Paul Scholes and be a key player in the midfield for the Red Devils. United struggled to replace Scholes after his retirement and could never really build a midfield strong enough to challenge the top teams.
However, Bolt reckons that Schweinsteiger will add to the team and could operate in Scholes’ role at United.
Van Gaal will be expecting the same from Schweinsteiger after having forked out 14 million pounds for him. Schweinsteiger is expected to play the role of a controller with the likes of Herrera and Schneiderlin being the engines of United’ midfield next season.
Further, Schweinsteiger’ defensive input could be a huge asset for United’ shaky defence.
Bolt, during the press conference, claimed that United’ defence looked shaky in the pre-season games but the team looked better overall.
Further, he also claimed that he is not used to seeing United play a slow paced game, but Van Gaal is different to Ferguson and that he is getting used to Van Gaal’s style.
If the pre-season games were anything to go by, United desperately need a new centre back in before the window closes.
As far as Schweinsteiger is concerned, the German midfielder is world class and has nothing to prove. But he will need to be at his very best if he wants to replicate the contributions of Paul Scholes, one of the finest midfielders of this generation.
