Chelsea throw another twist in the tale in the Toni Kroos saga, after Jose Mourinho has offered a staggering €8.5m-per-year deal for the German international, who is also a reported target of Manchester United and Real Madrid.
The 24-year-old midfield maestro, who has less than a year remaining on his contract, is on his way out of Bayern as the club refuse to accept his financial demands. The German superstar has been heavily linked with a move to Manchester United, while reports emerged in Spanish media that Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti wants to lead the midfield attack at the Bernabeu.
Kroos wants to be paid as high as other team-mates like Goetze or Lewandowski, and it looked for a while that Real Madrid or Manchester Untied would be the most likely destination, but Mourinho sees him as the ideal midfielder for Chelsea and the Portuguese is willing to do whatever it takes to get him.
Chelsea have already signed Cesc Fabregas from Barcelona and now Mourinho wants to add another marquee name to his side, as he looks to fill the void left by club legend Frank Lampard, who has left the club last month following the expiry of his contract.
According to reports from Spanish newspaper El Confidencial, The Blues are prepared to offer him €8.5m-per-year on a five year deal, while he has a market value of around €40m, which would take the amount to €80m overall.
Manchester United possibly have shifted their target elsewhere, with The Times reporting, Louis van Gaal is keen to sign Bayern Munich’s world class midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger at Old Trafford.
