Former Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger wants supporters to keep showing their support to the club and stick with manager Mikel Arteta’s team.
The French football expert left the Emirates Stadium in 2018 after remaining at the helm of affairs for 22 years.
During his long reign, the 72-year-old also had to endure a lot of criticism from fans, especially during his last years in London.
His current predecessor Arteta also came under fire from supporters when he led the Gunners to a terrible start to the 2021-22 season.
The Londoners lost their first three matches of the campaign to end up at the bottom of the table.
However, things subsequently improved under the Spanish boss as Arsenal went on to claim three successive victories in the top-flight.
They couldn’t secure full points against Brighton and Crystal Palace but then put together another impressive run that included wins over Aston Villa, Leicester City and Watford.
Wenger, who is currently serving as FIFA’s Chief of Global Football Development, gave some advice yesterday to fans at the world premiere of Arsene Wenger: Invincible at the Finsbury Park Picturehouse.
He said (as per the Independent): “My advice is just to the fans to continue to support the club.
“To Arteta to continue to try and gain the momentum to keep this going. They have invested a lot of money and hopefully, some potential in the team and (I hope they) continue to keep that momentum in the team.”
There is no doubt that Arteta has managed to make a great comeback after their disastrous start to the season.
However, the Gunners will now have to face a tough challenge after the international break when they visit Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool.
Their performance at Anfield will give us a better idea about how far away from the top they really are.
