Leeds United have issued a club statement that has won the hearts of millions of football fans all over the world.
The club has released an official statement where they confirmed that the players, coaching staff and the senior management team have volunteered to take a wage deferral for the foreseeable future.
Footballers and the club’s coaching staff are paid heavily and they have taken this decision to ensure that all non-football staff at Elland Road and Thorp Arch can be paid.
Football in the UK has been postponed till next month and there is no guarantee that the situation will improve anytime soon. To maintain the integrity of the business during these uncertain times, Leeds have taken this decision.
Due to the massive spread of the Covid-19 virus, the UK and many other nations around the world are in a state of lockdown, and there is no concrete plan for a return date with Marcelo Bielsa’s side sitting top of the Championship table with just nine games left to play.
Here are some of the selected tweets from the Leeds fans on Twitter:
Marching on together, couldn’t be more powerful right now after this announcement. Footballers get called selfish & people think that the players don’t care about the well being of the club. This is a prime example of how that’s not true. Well done to everyone 👏👏👏
