Reigning Spanish champions and European powerhouse Real Madrid have eventually signed Dutch international striker Klaas-Jan Huntelaar from Ajax for a reported fee of €20 million, according to Goal.com.
The Madrid giants have been seeking a top class striker after Ruud van Nistelrooy was ruled out for the rest of the season. A number of names, including that of Manchester United striker Carlos Tevez, had been mentioned but it appears that all this time Real were eyeing the 25-year old Ajax striker.
It has been announced that Huntelaar shall officially join Madrid on January 2. He is injured at the moment but is expected to be back by the time he becomes a Real Madrid player officially. Reports that Madrid and Ajax have had had talks over a possible deal emerged on Tuesday and there were even suggestions that an agreement has been reached.
But Ajax weirdly denied any negotiations although Madrid reportedly admitted that talks had been held. But it has now been finalized that Huntelaar, who is regarded as one of the Netherlands’ best strikers at the moment, shall officially make the switch from Amsterdam to Madrid next month.
The transfer fee is said to €20 million but it could rise to €27 million with additional clauses based on appearances and the player’s levels of success with the Merengues included in the deal. The transfer is also subject to Huntelaar agreeing personal terms and passing a medical fitness test. The player is said to sign a four-and-a-half contract.
Real Madrid president Ramon Calderon had earlier remarked that they would make two signings in January. One of them has been confirmed to be Huntelaar. Who wll be the other? Another Dutch player? At the moment the Madrid dressing room seems to painted in orange!
