The agent of Paris Saint-Germain centre-half Thiago Silva has admitted that his client’s future in the French capital is uncertain and there could be scope for a move to Premier League powerhouses Chelsea.
The Blues bolstered their squad over the summer following the appointment of Antonio Conte, with the Italian manager admitting he wanted to add to his options at central defence.
David Luiz returned to Stamford Bridge from PSG on transfer deadline day in a surprise deal, but there is every chance that the West London club will look to add further centre-halves to their contingent in upcoming transfer windows.
Silva’s contract at the Parc des Princes culminates next summer, and there has been no progress over an extension with Unai Emery’s men as yet.
The Brazilian’s agent, Paulo Tonietto, has confessed that there could be scope for the South American leaving his current employers and Chelsea would be an option.
“Chelsea are a big club,” the representative told Sport Witness, elaborating:
And the English league is the best in the world. We’re not negotiating a new contract, let’s see what happens before December. Thiago’s deal ends on June 30, 2017 if PSG don’t qualify for the Champions League – everything is possible in football.
Silva is held in high regard in the global game. In his AC Milan days, he was adjudged as one of the best players in his position in world football.
At 32, the Brazilian’s better days may well be behind him, but the enforcer would offer plenty of experience and leadership to Chelsea if he moved to the Premier League club. With the Blues finding other targets unavailable or the asking price pushed up to astronomical levels, Silva could well be an afforded and astute addition.
The veteran has also played alongside compatriot Luiz for club and country, with this understanding another potential bonus for the West London side.
