Manchester United confirmed earlier that they have agreed on a deal with Borussia Dortmund to cancel Adnan Januzaj’s loan spell.
Speaking to the media yesterday, manager Louis Van Gaal has now confirmed that the young Belgian winger could play for Manchester United tomorrow in the U21s game against Reading.
Januzaj was loaned out to the Bundesliga outfit due to lack of first-team action at Old Trafford. However, the United youngster failed to impress the Dortmund boss Thomas Tuchel and spent most of his time out of the starting lineup in Germany.
Van Gaal has confirmed that the player is fit and ready to play but United will need to take care of the paperwork first. If all the documents are sorted in time, Januzaj is set to play his first match on return to Manchester United against Reading tomorrow.
He said: “I hope he can show his talent this year for Manchester United”.
“I believe in the talent of Adnan Januzaj,” van Gaal added. “I have said this previously. I also previewed [foresaw] that it shall be very difficult to play matches in Dortmund and, unfortunately, I was right. Then I think that, if he cannot play there, then he would be better training with us here to show his talent in the first team”.
“He has been tested already this morning [Friday] and he didn’t play so much [for] 90 minutes, only in the pre-season, so he has to show his fitness in the second team. We have to wait to see that the papers are alright, as they are not at the moment. We have to see if he can play on Monday for the second team. He is fit to play and that is also very good, then he can show his quality.”
Manchester United have missed a quality wide player this season and it will be interesting to see how Januzaj contributes for the remainder of the season.
New signing Memphis Depay was signed to provide much-needed width and goals from out wide, but the Dutchman has failed to impress so far.
It remains to be seen if Januzaj can make an instant impact now.
