2010 FIFA World Cup Group Stage

The South Koreans would start off strong once again in a World Cup with a 2-0 win over Greece on Saturday afternoon in South Africa.

It was a quick start for the Koreans who took a 1-0 lead with a 7th minute goal from Lee Jung-Soo. Greece continues to struggle in World Cups and has not scored in their last four matches (didn’t score in all three group stage matches in 1994).

The match would remain 1-0 until early in the second half when South Korea extended their lead to 2-0. Manchester United’s Park Ji-Sung scored in the 52nd minute to give South Korea a comfortable margin and secure the three points.

Even though South Korea won the first match, it doesn’t guarantee they will make it out of the group stage. In the 2006 World Cup they won their opening match but failed to make it to the next round. Greece will have a tough road to make it to the next round as they will probably need at least 4 points and possibly 6 out of the next two matches.
