During the January transfer window, Manchester United had been heavily linked with a move for PSG defender Marquinhos.
This is what we reported over the course of past couple of months:
January 24: Marquinhos’s agent admitted that Manchester United had shown interest in the Brazilian defender, who would cost around €45m.
Speaking to French newspaper Le Parisien, Marquinhos’ agent Giuliano Bertolucci said:
“Last summer, PSG’s president [Nasser Al-Khelaifi] declared that Marquinhos was unsellable. We will see what their position is this summer. Many clubs are interested in the player. Manchester United are one of them, this is true.”
February 1st: French media reported that Manchester United had begun talks with PSG to sign their highly rated defender.
February 11: Despite missing out on him in January, RMC Sport were pretty much convinced that United would make a move for him. The Red Devils are “pushing hard” to sign next summer, they claimed.
February 17: Le 10 Sport claims that Marquinhos is expecting to sign a new contract with PSG. Bit of an anti-climax!
To be honest, amid all these, it is hard to know which are to be believed and which to be discarded. But, now we are certain that there was a definite interest from United, as the former Roma defender himself revealed in an interview with L’Equipe.

Goal.com’s Robin Bairner has also tweeted on the subject:
#Marquinhos tells L’Equipe #PSG “shut door” on #ManUtd negotiations: “Proves they count on me. Gives me pleasure to see #MUFC interested.”

Marquinhos is a highly talented player and could be a terrific signing for Manchester United in the summer. Fingers crossed!
