Lucky 15 Tips Leg 1 – Party Central (Down Royal, 1:45)

The Grade 3 Mares Novices Hurdle over 2m 1f is the first of four graded races at the two-day Champion Chase meeting at Down Royal in Northern Ireland. It’s also the first leg of our Lucky 15 tips for this day. Party Central can follow-up on her cosy debut success over the obstacles here. Gordon Elliott saddled the winner of this two years ago and always targets this card with top horses.

In Party Central, he has a five-year-old mare by Yeats with smart bumper form. She ran second to subsequent Punchestown Festival heroine Grangee in the Grade 2 Irish National Hunt Flat race for mares during the Dublin Racing Festival. Party Central has since landed a Listed contest over Easter at Fairyhouse and made a successful switch to hurdles. Odds of 5/2 say she can make it two from two in this sphere here.

Leg 2 – Son Of Red (Wetherby, 2:40)

Another two day-meeting kicks off in this side of the Irish Sea at Wetherby, meanwhile. The Charlie Hall is one of the annual highlights at the West Yorkshire track, but Son Of Red appeals in the 2m handicap hurdle on the first day’s card. Trained by Alan King, this four-year-old French Navy gelding should have plenty more to offer.

Son Of Red won his hurdles bow at Newcastle and then ran a fine third behind Adagio in a Triumph Hurdle Trial at Cheltenham. The winner finished runner-up in the actual Grade 1 Triumph Hurdle during the Festival, so this is strong form. Son Of Red was also far from disgraced when fifth and stepping outside of his age group for the first time in a Grade 2 at Kempton. He has since had a spin on the Flat, so should strip fitter for it and looks a bit of value at 7/2 now making his handicap hurdle debut off a 124 mark.

Leg 3 – Minella Drama (Uttoxeter, 2:48)

Donald McCain described Minella Drama as his top prospect for novice chasing in all the autumn stable tours, so he’s among Lucky 15 tips this Friday. He was also the best of the five runners over hurdles declared in the 2m Kalahari King Novices’ Limited Handicap Chase at Uttoxeter. A six-year-old Flemensfirth gelding, Minella Drama chased home Sir Gerhard in his first Irish Point.

There is nothing so mighty as the Champion Bumper winner to contend with here. Minella Drama progressed over hurdles, placing in a Haydock Grade 2 before landing the Listed 2m 4f Sidney Banks Novices’ Hurdle at Market Rasen. He then finished runner-up to My Drogo at the highest level around Aintree. Bought to make up into a chase, Minella Drama has the class to defy top weight if taking to fences and odds of 9/4 say he will.

Leg 4 – Porticello (Wetherby, 3:15)

In the Listed 2m Wensleydale Juvenile Hurdle at Wetherby, Gary Moore unleashes the exciting French import Porticello for his British bow. The form of his win across the Channel at Auteuil could hardly have worked out better. Porticello ran out a three-length victor over Magistrato that day. The runner-up has since joined Paul Nicholls and bolted up by a dozen lengths at Chepstow a couple of weeks ago.

That is not the only positive to the form either. The third horse home, Imprenable, has won twice since including in this grade and finished a half-length runner-up in Grade 2 company conceding weight. Both the four and sixth home from Auteuil have also scored. On that basis, Porticello could be one to follow in the juvenile hurdle division this season. He has already been backed into 9/4 for a successful UK debut.
