Liverpool are looking to sign the highly rated German centre back Shkodran Mustafi from Valencia.

The Merseyside giants will send a club official to Valencia this Sunday to run the rule over the player and then initiate discussions regarding a transfer.

SuperDeporte journalist Dani Moreno told Radio Esport Valencia: “Liverpool will come this Sunday to see a player at VCF, for Mustafi. They will negotiate because they want to sign.”

Liverpool’s need for a defender is no secret and it seems Jurgen Klopp is looking to address his side’s defensive problems right away. The German coach signed Joel Matip on a free transfer earlier this season and is looking to snap up Mustafi now.

The Valencia defender is exceptionally talented and would be an outstanding addition for the Reds.

The former Everton player also has the experience of English football which will make his transition a lot easier. Furthermore, working under a German coach will also be an added help.

Liverpool are waiting to find out the fate of Mamadou Sakho. The French defender could be banned for a long time because of doping. Furthermore, with Skrtel, Enrique and Toure set to depart at the end of the season, Liverpool’s need for defenders has never been greater.

Valencia are not an easy club to negotiate with and a player of Mustafi’s talents will not be sold willingly. Liverpool might have to break the bank to land their man.
