Manchester United youngster Adnan Januzaj has shrugged off speculation linking him with a move away from Old Trafford this summer, and insisted he his happy to stay and fight for his place in the first team at the club.

Januzaj scored the winning goal in the Red Devils’ 1-0 win over Aston Villa last night, and denied reports he is on his way to Sunderland on a loan deal, stressing he is happy at Old Trafford and has vowed to fight for his place in the squad.

“It was only rumours,” he was quoted as saying by Manchester United’s official website.

“I’m happy here and I want to fight for my place.”

The Belgian made his first start in Louis van Gaal’s side since February, and made his rare chance count when he put Manchester United in the lead in the first half.

The 20-year-old has expressed his delight at scoring his first goal since April, and is hoping to get more first team action after his match-winning display.

“It felt good to get the goal because I’ve not had a game for a long time and my fitness is not so good, so I’m happy to score for the team and score the winner.

“I hope to have more games in my legs and hopefully score more goals,” he added.

Last season, Januzaj made only 18 Premier League appearances for the Red Devils in what was manager Van Gaal’s first season in charge. Although he failed to score a single goal for the senior team, his five goals for the Manchester United Under-21s helped the young Red Devils to the Under-21 league title.

With a goal already to his name in the early weeks of the 2015/16 season, the youngster, who has been heavily tipped to move out of Old Trafford for improved playing chances, is likely to remain put and stake his claim for a regular spot in the starting eleven this season.
