France 1-2 South Africa
2010 FIFA World Cup
22 June 2010
South Africa would fail to qualify for the knockout stage but did end their 2010 World Cup with a victory.
They were clearly the better side in the match as France was in poor form and ended the tournament with one point from three matches. The Bafana Bafana would take the lead in the 20th mintue with a header from Bongani Khumalo. It would get worse for the French in the 25th minute as Yoann Gourcuff was given a red card. With the man advantage, South Africa would score again in the first half as Katlego Mphela made it 2-0 in the 37th minute.
France did improve in the second half and cut the lead in half in the 70th minute with a Florent Malouda goal. Neither side would advance to the next round and it will be a very disappointing World Cup for France. South Africa becomes the first host nation not to make it out of the group stage but did finish the tournament with a win.
