Only yesterday we reported that Manchester United scouts were in Portugal to watch Benfica in action and now Daily Mirror today claims that the Red Devils are eyeing a move for one of Benfica’s precious talent, Nemanja Matic.
According to the report, Benfica have slapped a price tag of £20m for the former Chelsea player. Matic joined The Blues in 2009 and could only make 2 appearances in 2 years for the Londoners and was eventually transferred to Benfica as a part of £21m plus swap deal for David Luiz.
The 25-year-old developed into a prolific player upon moving to Lisbon and he is now chased by several European heavyweights including Napoli.
Central midfield is one of the areas where David Moyes will be looking to strengthen in the January transfer window, and it will be interesting to see, whether Manchester United go for Matic or not. The Red Devils are also interested in Benfica duo – Niko Gaitan and Ezequiel Garay.
Over to Chelsea and it is the same old story with Juan Mata. See, there is logic behind his transfer speculations – he is a world class talent, was the best player of Chelsea last season but currently does not in the first eleven of Jose Mourinho. In such a scenario, all the top clubs would try at least to tempt with an offer.
On September, it was reported that Mata could leave in the January transfer window with a deal reportedly in the offing with Paris Saint-Germain. We reported couple of days back that Chelsea could sell him to PSG in order to free up space and provide adequate funds to launch a mega-deal for Monaco’s Falcao.
Now, according to The Express and The Guardian, Mata is wanted by La Liga outfit Atletico Madrid and Italian giants Juventus. Mata would only be joining a Champions League club no doubt and a return to Spain cannot be ruled out either.
