In the last one month, United have been busy scouting players in Portugal. In November, Portuguese newspapers – O Jogo & A Bola – both reported that Man United are trying to land Benfica trio – Nemanja Matic,  Niko Gaitan and Ezequiel Garay for a collective amount of around €80m.

According to reports from Portuguese newspaper A Bola, Manchester United scouts were present in Benfica’s tie against SC Braga, and were keeping close eye on the trio, yet again.

On November 2, we reported that United are heavily interested in Gaitan and Benfica could allow him a move, if the right price is met by the potential suitors.

Garay, who claimed that due to join the Red Devils in the summer for a reported fee of £18m but new manager David Moyes had blocked the deal. The Argetine claimed that there was a deal in place and United could move for him to bolster defensive unit in January.

Likewise, central midfield is one area which Manchester United desperately need to bolster and Nemanja Matic could fit into that role nicely.
