Diego Costa could be the ‘first of many’ to depart Vicente Calderon this summer, after Chelsea officially announced yesterday that a deal had been agreed to sign the Spain international from Atletico Madrid.
Former Chelsea midfielder Tiago Mendes is likely to return to the Bridge, while the Blues are working on to lure the Brazilian left-back Filipe Luis as well.
The 28-year-old defender has set his heart out on leaving Spain and moving to Chelsea, but it seems his price-tag/release clause of €24m is proving to be an obstinate obstacle for even the moneymen of the London club.
Luis has already rejected an improved offer from Atletico, while Spanish newspaper Marca speculates his relationship with the Spanish club is not in amicable terms anymore.
In such a scenario, Luis would ask the club to lower his release clause, in order to facilitate his move to Chelsea, but chances of his wishes being granted are almost impossible.
However, both the parties are willing to solve the problem within next week, as Atletico understand it is a mere futile attempt to keep hold of the player, who is unwilling to commit his future at the club.
