The transfer saga surrounding Bayern Munich midfielder Toni Kroos seems to be an endless chapter in a grade nine history book. After it was confirmed last week that Manchester United have ended their futile pursuit for the 24 year old German, fresh reports emerging from Spanish media now claim that Chelsea have joined the race for the Bayern midfield maestro.
The story claims that Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho has lost confidence in Brazilian midfielder Oscar, that the Portuguese is desperate to bolster his squad in the summer and has identified Kroos as the perfect anchorman in the middle of the park.
However, it would not be easy for the Blues to land the midfield maestro as Bayern don’t want to lose any of their valuable assets in the coming summer. The Bavarian club’s President Karl Hopfner had earlier been quoted speaking tough on Kroos’ transfer situation.
“There will certainly be further talks. But at some point the player has to say what he wants. We will not exceed certain financial boundaries.”
Kroos is currently on a £60,000 a week at Bayern and it was believed that the German was using United’s interest to double his wages at the Munich club. The midfielder had himself confirmed that he would stay at the Allianz Arena next season.
“I expect to play next year at Bayern. And now I want to concentrate fully on the World Cup. There was a lot of speculation. But Manchester United is and was not an issue.”
